QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

When should I place my order?
Our specialty is short-notice orders for a small number of butterflies. Place large orders (over 50 butterflies) at least 4 weeks in advance. We recommend you place your order as soon as possible to avoid any last minute disappointments. The earlier-the better. We take orders up to 3 months in advance. First Come-First Serve We always keep a small amount on hand for that unexpected and spontaneous gift. Have a loved one leaving for the Mainland? Or want to share a significant moment with another? If you need only a dozen or less Pulelehua (butterflies), we can usually fill you order instantly.

How many butterflies should I order?
The number you choose is a matter of preference and/or budget. The average order is 2 to 3 dozen per 50 guests. For an individual butterfly release you can order one per guest or couple, or select certain guests to participate, such as the wedding party and family. Or, releasing a several dozen butterflies at once from a gift box is also very enchanting. The larger the number released, the more dramatic the effect will be.

How warm does it need to be to release Butterflies?
Butterflies will only take flight when the temperature is above 62 degrees, but the warmer the better! Nothing to worry about in Hawaii Nei! Keep in mind that butterflies should never be released indoors or during a strong rain.

Can I release butterflies at night?
There must be at least 30 minutes of light left once you release them so they can find a place to nest for the evening.

What should I do when my Butterflies arrive?
Complete instructions on how to care for and release your butterflies will accompany your order. When they arrive, simply place you butterfly container in a cool, dark area so they will remain calm and inactive.

What happens to them after release?
As a species, the Monarch butterfly is the strongest and most resilient. They will naturally find the host plants and flowers they need to survive. If you have plants nearby, they may just hang out with you for months to come.

What is an individual release?
Butterflies are carefully packaged in individual oragami envelopes to be distributed and released by your guests. They are easily opened, even for a child.

Are the butterflies harmed?
No, All butterflies are delivered in a specially designed, insulated container with a cold pack. The individual triangular envelopes actually protect their fragile wings from damage and keep the butterfly calm and healthy until their release.
